Level of Detail (LOD) models are representations of buildings at different scalable detail.
We have multiple options for LOD models depending on client needs. The options below are a guide and we can add more details.
LOD models are valuable for asset management, project visualizations, and planning purposes. Users can see and isolate all buildings within environments, view any data attached to the building model, and turn them off if needed.
We've developed a system in-house to wrap the building models with photogrammetry to precisely render every individual model. That gives real-world texture to the LOD models and makes them a better representation of the real world.

We partnered with Cesium to use our Denver 3D mesh model as sample data for the new plugin for Unreal Engine. Go to the Unreal Store to learn more and download the Denver data.
In a collaboration with Unreal Engine, we ingested our 600 mile Adelaide City model into Twinmotion to show how large scale datasets can be used for powerful real-time experiences. The final model uses standard resolution imagery for Adelaide's surrounding suburbs and high-resolution imagery for the CBD. We added Twinmotion assets from their library to give the feeling of a living city, breathing city. Both Unity and Unreal Engine can import spatial data as FBX, elevation data as height map and corresponding imagery to drape on top. ESRI CityEngine can directly export data into Unreal Engine Datasmith format. Datasmith is a collection of tools to bring CAD, BIM and GIS content to Unreal Engine. Complex 3D environments streamable to any web browser via Pixel Streaming. Unreal Engine provides tools to manage large terrain-based worlds such as Landscape and World Composition.

Classified mesh models are the ultimate city data management tool that mixes high-quality imagery, attribute data, and interactivity.
We start with a high-resolution capture of an urban area. We use a mixture of aerial and ground imagery with oblique photogrammetry as the basis of a realistic 3D mesh model. We’ve already completed aerial captures at a quality of 2cm per pixel as a benchmark of our current working capacity. Those aerial and ground captures get turned into the 3D mesh without the need for additional measurement systems like LiDAR.
Our team then uses manual and AI-driven classification to identify houses and buildings, trees, and other features chosen by the end client. Database information is then added to the model, turning it into a management and visualization tool.

Experience Aerometrex 3D by downloading a complete 2 cm high resolution sample of our 3D model of the city of Philadelphia as a Skyline Terraexplorer kit or a Bentley ContextCapture 3MX file.
This model was created as a base dataset to help prepare for the Pope’s visit to the City of Philadelphia in 2015 and in conjunction with Bentley Systems, Aerometrex acquired, processed and delivered a high-resolution, geographically accurate and fully textured 3D model of part of the city of Philadelphia for its client ESM Productions, one of the event producers for the papal events. This model aided in the planning for the city-wide event by capturing crucial details such as street and sidewalk measurements, landscaping heights, and light post placements.
Over an extended period of R&D, experiments and trials, our group of passionate spatial professionals and engineers designed a robust 3D photogrammetric workflow for flight planning and acquisition of aerial photographs, processing and generation of 3D models, and delivery of the final data.

Aerial data acquisition and pre-processing
We design a strategic flight plan and ground control survey locations once an area of interest has been decided for your project. Captured frames (via helicopter and ground) are then pre-processed and carefully color balanced.
3D Photogrammetry Processing
Every frame's geometry is analyzed and modelled to reconstruct the camera's position, then used in reverse to reconstruct the objects in the images in a fully-textured mesh object. Precise ground control points are integrated into the processing chain to generate geographically accurate data.
Geometry and Texture Enhancement
Special care and quality control systems are implemented at all stages of the process. Distortion in buildings are fixed and cars removed from the roads and water bodies flattened for high-resolution 3D meshes.
Delivery: range of formats and value-added products
3D mesh can be delivered in many formats for 3rd party CAD, GIS or 3D rendering software or packaged for streaming through web platforms. Extra information can also be extracted from the 3D mesh or used to produce innovative value-added products and services.
Common 3D formats include FBX, OBJ, Cesium 3D Tiles, ESRI i3s, Bentley 3SM/3MX, and Skyline TerraExplorer 3DM. We can prepare other formats on request.
